Acceptable level of risk

There is some degree of risk inherent in living on Mars. How much is acceptable? For reference, statistically speaking, an astronaut's chance of death in the line of duty is about 5%. (Hopefully the next generation of spacecraft, particularly Starship, will be far safer.)
